This is Julio's Corner, my corner of the internet, where I talk about whatever is on my mind.

I'll mostly talk about stuff I've watched, read, or listened to.

But I may get introspective at times and reflect on my life or on society at large.

This episode is being recorded on Monday, July 28th, 2025.

And welcome back to the show.

Once again, my name is Julio.

I was originally going to make this episode a sort of like a video essay, where I was going to really get into a topic.

But as the week has gone by, I've just been...

the news has just been so heavy and mentally draining that I just...

I just fell out of it.

I've been demotivated.

I just don't have the mental stamina to be a regular at this.

And the fact that, you know, other stuff in my life is, you know, stress...

other stresses in my life, take a toll as well, because, you know, this is not...

this is just a hobby.

I make no money from this at all or anything.

This is just for funsies and for my own form of therapy.

It's just...

when all is said and done, it's at the bottom of my priorities in terms of...

well, I just don't have the time and energy to devote as much as I want to, or would like to, but I'm rambling here.

Point is, my original plan is out the window, so I'm just gonna ramble.

I was even thinking about just doing a flat-out audio because it's gonna be...

well, it's not gonna be up to standards.

Well, my own standards anyway, because again, this is a hobby of mine.

I'm not a professional.

But whatever, I just don't care anymore.

But yeah, like, the idea was Mehdi Hassan, he did a Jubilee episode recently with...

I forget how many...

20 to 1, right?

So it's like 20, surrounded by 20...

It was supposed to be 20 right wingers, like Sam Cedar did when he did his version of Jubilee.

But these guys were even more extreme than the ones that Sam Cedar had to deal with.

These were just all straight up fascists and white supremacists for the most part.

So I wanted to focus in on this one guy who called himself...

He called himself a Native American because his family came here in the 1500s as settlers, which is like, do you not hear the words that are coming out of your mouth?

If you're a settler, that already defeats the idea of you being a Native, because you're not from here, you settled, you were a colonizer.

So, and the reason why I wanted to hone in on that idea versus just doing another new summary show is just, like I said, I was thinking of doing a video essay, and that idea I found a little more interesting, especially because history tends to repeat itself.

And it's something that I like to, I mean, when I was a younger, I was definitely more of a history enthusiast than I am now, because I just do straight up escapism with fiction.

But even then, I'll still fall back to some, you know, listen to some historical podcasts or watch some historical stuff on YouTube and what have you, just because it still interests me.

You know, even though as much as I'm nihilistic about humanity, I still like to see how we were in the past.

And so this white Native American guy, you know, this white guy who believed he's Native American, it's not a new idea.

It's not something completely original.

In fact, in the 1800s, around 1850s and 1860s, when this country was going through an influx of Irish and Italian immigration, you had your...

So these were people that were, you know, Catholics coming in.

The Protestants who were here already, because, you know, England was the main country that colonized the states.

The religion, the people that came here were Protestants, because they were persecuted for being Protestants in Europe.

So that's why they came here.

And now here they are, like the Jewish people, like the Israeli Jews in Israel being the same...

that, you know, they were in a Holocaust, now they're making their own Holocaust.

These people were doing the same thing.

Now, they're the persecutors.

They were persecuted in the past, but now they're the persecutors.

And they called them, they had a party, a political party.

It wasn't that popular, because it didn't really win a lot of seats.

So it was more of an independent party.

I don't think the Republican Party existed at the time.

I think the Democratic Party was...

it was like the Federalists and the Democrats.

And then this smaller unit called the Native American Party.

That's what they call themselves, even though they are not Native American.

They were just white Protestant citizens.

And their moniker was the Know Nothing Party, because whenever people would ask them about their affiliations and their biases and just their political point of view, they were always, I know nothing, I know nothing.

So they were...

people would call them the Know Nothing Party, which again, it rings true because they're being ignorant.

They're not Native Americans.

They were descendants of settlers.

So this is, like I said, like what this guy was saying in the Jubilee video isn't unique.

It's baked into the history of this country.

And what got me into to figure out, what got me to find out about this was that I'm a New Yorker, so I like to look up specifically New York history.

And there was a section in New York, in downtown New York City called, it was called the Five Point Slum, back in that time period, 1800s as I mentioned.

That area, which is now, there's a park, Columbus Park now there.

It was a really bad slum that was saturated with Irish and Italian immigrants.

And this group of Protestants that had, so there was a bunch of gangs in that area.

If you saw the movie Gangs of New York by Martin Scorsese, that movie is loosely based on that history of that area of New York City in that time period.

So he does kind of portray a pretty decent visualization of how it was, but the settings, I mean for dramatic effect, things were changed up a little bit.

But anyways, it's not that far from the truth from how people lived back in that time.

So you had this Protestant gang called the Bowery Boys, which is another funny thing, because one of the podcasts I listened to was called the Bowery Boys, where it's these two guys that love to talk about New York history.

So this gang, the Bowery Boys, by I think their main guy was called Jimmy the Butcher, which is the character in the movie, Gangs of New York, actual guy, he was a real person.

He was part of the New York faction of the White American or the Know Nothing Party.

They eventually changed their name to just the American Party because obviously, you know, they're not Native Americans.

But anyways, and it's another funny thing, if we're going back to the present, you have Elon Musk, who's trying to create his own version of the American Party, and he's not even American.

I mean, well, he might be a naturalized citizen now.

There's still questions about that.

But he's from South Africa.

He's South African, and he's trying to create this American Party, which is...

he might not even know that it's actually a callback to this original American Party that at some point were called the Native American Party before they decided to get rid of the Native section from the name and just straight up called themselves American Party, which helped with Tammany Hall and all this other stuff in that time period.

And then the Irish had this group called the...

I think they're called the Dead Rabbits.

I think that was the name of that gang.

But anyway, so I was going to get more in depth of that.

I obviously didn't put enough...

This is the gist of what I remember that I was going to get into.

So it's just funny how, you know, history repeats itself.

Oh, and also, regarding how they always said, no nothing, you have our president who, whenever questioned or pressed about stuff, he always says, I don't know anything.

I don't know nothing.

I don't know nothing.

And I mean, again, it does ring true because he's not really that bright.

He's not bright at all, but he keeps getting away with shit, which sucks.

So, yeah, that was the video essay, the idea of the video essay, but instead, I'm just going to ramble about whatever stuck from this week's travesties.

So again, Paramount is in the picture.

They are, I probably already mentioned this in the last episode about how they're going to have two people monitoring, I think they call them ombudsman by the government to help monitor their media content to make it more quote unquote diverse.

But in reality, it's not going to be diverse at all.

It's going to be pure propaganda for, you know, stuff that makes Trump feel good about himself.

And another example of this is that they're hiring this female who used to be at New York Times editorial journalist or whatever you call them.

People who write in the editorial section.

Barry Weiss.

So they're complaining how Stephen Colbert was losing like $50 million a year from his show, even though it was the number one rated show.

And they didn't even give him a chance to really work out anything to manage the budget.

They just fired him because we all know that his criticisms of Trump rubbed Trump the wrong way and they were trying to appease him.

So that's why they got rid of the whole late show.

But in return, they're going to spend $200 million.

So they're claiming to lose 50, but they're going to spend roughly $200 million.

Or at least this is what Barry Weiss is asking for.

They're going to hire her.

She's asking for $200 million, which is four times what they claim they're losing.

For a female that she has her own failing media platform, I think it's called, I don't even remember the name, Free Something, Free Publishing or something like that.

But she's just a grifter, very pro-Israeli, always likes to play the victim claim that there's no free speech.

But yet she herself will go out of her way to get people that are pro-Palestinian and against Israel fired and censored.

Though she claims that she's a victim of censorship, but she will in fact be pro-active.

So it's just more projection from a typical hypocrite and grifter.

And another thing that I found interesting is that apparently Poland, the country of Poland is apparently showing a resurgence in their economy.

They're becoming more stable economically and being more successful.

And so a lot of these white supremacist people are liking, they want to keep you, they're now using, they're trying to use Poland as this, as a talking point, as for the argument that, that see, what we're doing is the right move in getting rid of all these immigrants from this country, because by doing it and making America white again, we're going to be like Poland.

And also, and so these talking points are happening in here, in America, and of course, in parts of Europe as well.

Which is kind of ironic because of the whole Brexit movement.

England, you know, when they committed Brexit, one of the big reasons for Brexit is that there was all these Polish people, these Polish immigrants coming into our country and stealing our, you know, the same argument about immigration, like these Polish are stealing our jobs and making it hard for our economy.

Though I don't, I haven't heard of England getting more prosperous since Brexit, but yeah, the Polish weren't considered white back then, were they?

They were considered these, ooh, these Polish immigrants, these non-white people in our country, but now they're doing well.

Oh yeah, they're Europeans, aren't they?

So obviously, they're like one of us.

It's just a hypocrisy at work, and it's just a constant repeat of history where they keep back talking and not taking accountability for their actions and whatnot.

And what else do I want to ramble about?

That's pretty much it, really.

I guess this is going to be a short episode, because again, I don't have anything planned.

I'm nothing more than an amateur.

And yeah, I just don't have it in me to...

I don't know, brush up the quality of service or whatever.

I just want to continue with my escapism, because that's all that I have, keeping me sane.

So let's just get right back to the outro and whatnot.

And that wraps up the show.
